HARWICH ART

This will be the first year that 'Harwich Art' has hosted an exhibition.  Add this page to your bookmarks to stay in touch and find out what is happening with the visual Arts in Harwich.  This summer we can also look forward to various exhibitions and events from the 'Harwich Festival of Art' and an exhibition from the 'Harwich Art Club'.  With all these amazing events we may imagine that Harwich will become a 'centre for the arts' with its wonderful and interesting historical background.

Here is what 'Harwich Art' hopes to achieve in the near future.

The exhibition at the Electric Palace ï»¿King's Quay Street, Harwich, Essex, CO12 3ER, is to be held on June 4th - 5th.  The same exhibition will also be held in Room 1912 next to the Electric Palace and at Bodgener's Gallery, 52 Church Street, Harwich, Essex, CO12 3DS .   The Summer of Art is very well publicised with 30,000 leaflets being distributed and the involvement of the BBC. We are hoping that Clive Owen will be involved as he is the patron of the Electric Palace which is one of the oldest running cinemas in the UK.  There are over 20 locals artists involved.

I would like to thank Councillor R Callender for all of the time he has devoted in helping and supporting me in this project.

Future Plans

Any money raised from work sold will be used to set up a new project in the town.  The following project would be to fill the empty shops in the high street with art, by possibly working with established charities who might benefit from commission from any work sold by artists.

Pending funding one of the unused shops could be set up as an art workshop for young people, where older youths can teach and help the younger children. This would hopefully raise self esteem for all involved and create some purpose in life for young people out of work and a creative space for children after school and at the weekend.  The workshop could focus on a graffiti and an anime theme to increase interest and appeal to a wider audience rather than just those who are 'good' at drawing.

Both projects would liven up the town, lift morale and  draw in business to the town by becoming a 'centre for arts'.  These projects are of course plans for the future and at present the focus is on the 'Cinematic Celebration' at the Electric Palace.

If you are interested in funding or becoming involved in any of these projects, please email me larainperry@gmail.com or call me on 01255 556 097 or 07762861621
