A120 GHOST TREE

ARTISTS STATEMENT

My art practice has been driven by me responding to personal experiences that I have encountered during life’s rich journey. These are stored in compartments within the subconscious sketchbook in my mind until a concealed catalyst transforms them into an inspirational concept for my conscious mind to translate into an artwork. Therefore I have always eliminated the traditional physical sketchbook from my toolset. This process has inspired me to produce unique public artworks including my signature landscape intervention “A120 Ghost Tree”.

As a passionate believer in the positive value that public artworks give to both society as a whole and the individual, my practice is increasingly devoted to this area and has led me to create and manage as a voluntary Art Consultant the Colne Gallery & Constable Gallery in Colchester Hospital, The Heart Galleries in the Colchester Walk In Centre and the Mayflower Gallery in the Fryatt Hospital Harwich. These provide artists with a unique opportunity to publicise their works to a wide and fresh audience and to enhance the hospital environment for its users.

I also founded and run Art in the Community a group of artists whose goal is to challenge the stigma and barriers encountered by people who suffer from mental health problems. The group meets in Hollytrees Museum .

All enquiries re these galleries and Art in the Community should be made to artbyclive@yahoo.co.uk .
I believe that the following principle is sacrosanct in order to sustain true creativity:

"Pictoribus atque poetis quidlibet audendi semper fuit aequa potestas." ( Horace, Ars Poetica, 9 . Roman philosopher) "Poets and painters have always had an equal licence in daring invention."
